Spikenard & Sage A circle for the exploration of sacred signatures of ritual anointing ingredients. Hiera are sacred things. Things that know sacred things, and transmit sacred things, but look very much just…like things. Resins, water, roots and pollen. Branches, bees and honey. Objects woven with signatures and interstitial songs. Ritual ingredients, significant, but camouflaged for throngs. This is a circle that seeks to elicit, educe and evoke meaning from a substance each week. Hidden things. Things that are invisible save to those who know how to look. ________________________________________ The Hearth & The Study Each season, the council of 12 convenes for six sessions. We gather fortnightly (that’s every two weeks for those unfamiliar) for six live sessions across twelve weeks, each one two hours long, held over Zoom but shaped like something far older than a call. Each cycle belongs to a single ingredient and how you approach your part in the sharing is upto you. You might consider this work to be the antidote to modern life. This is slow work. Contemplative work. Work that requires discipline and devotion. This work requires you to look, think and process. And when you have processed, to bring your thoughts into circle. Together, then, we weave a story impossible to have happened at any other time and place. To understand, what it is that the plant knows and what it wishes to share with humanity in this moment. And so what does study look like? Well the field notes are entirely at the practitioners discretion, as long as they can express the plants song. Indeed, the notes themselves will become part of the artistic expression of the plant, just as much as they are the group’s expression. Poetry, prose, embroidery, music, photography, chemistry…however, the practitioner expresses their findings is up to them and brings yet more beauty to the weave. This is a guild in the true sense: a gathering of practitioners bound by shared, serious labour, each contribution adding to a body of knowledge that none of us could reach alone. This is a sacred space and although sessions will be recorded, they will only be available to that specific council.
