Synaesthesia is when two senses converge to create an unusual version of perception. When one sensory pathway is stimulated it leads to an automatic, involuntary experience in a second sensory pathway. A kind of cross wiring if you like…

About the event
Helen Nagle-Smith experiences essential oils as colours. Elizabeth Ashley hears fragrances as musical notes.
The artist Kandinsky heard the colours of his paintings as music and Kanye West often describes how he sees his music in colour.
In 1862, the English perfumer, Septimus Piesse, first coined the term Smound, of how for him, scent and sound were intrinsically linked, and this was reflected in the beautiful fragrances he created.
Incidence is hard to measure with suggestions ranging from 1 in every 23 people to 1 in every 2000. Whist true synaesthesia is thought to probably be congenital; research suggests that other non-synaesthetes may be able to develop certain traits with training.
Learning to develop a cross sensory appreciation of an essential oil brings aromatherapy to life. It deepens ones understanding of an oil's nature, and shows how its nuances might affect our personalities and physicality and how other people might engage with it.
Expand your understanding of essential oils through this practical workshop. You will;
· Appreciate the way scent and taste are linked within the physical body
· Increase your awareness of how the oils move across the mental realms of colour
· Perceive the tactile nature of some essential oils and how you can better employ them for touch therapies
· Improve blending harmonies by experiencing the musicality of essential oils
· Consider how you get to know an essential oil in more depth.
This is a 90 minute workshop and we invite you to bring your oils box!
We’ll be talking about peppermint, orange and rose for starters….and we ask you to bring an oil you are not so familiar with, to work with.
