Time & Location
28 May 2024, 18:30 – 21:30
The Secret Healer's Shed, SY8 1LQ, Bridge Cottages, 4 Sheet Rd, Ludlow SY8 1LQ, UK
About the event
It is estimated that around 13 million women in the UK are currently experiencing  perimenopausal, menopausal or post-menopausal symptoms. This equates to around one third of the female population, and studies show that around nine out of ten women have never had any education on menopause.  (UCL, 2023) Â
What's more, neither have some health professionals!Â
Symptoms such as anxiety, mood swings, brain fog, hot flushes and irregular periods can affect women’s home and working lives dreadfully. Yet sixty percent of women seek information and advice, only after their symptoms have started and potentially causing them difficulties.
HRT is a salvation for some women, but it does not suit everyone.
If you are looking for natural ways to navigate this difficult life change, essential oils may offer you a simple to use and effective solution to use in isolation or to support other therapies, including HRT. (Aashargeetha, 2023, Tarumi, 2020)
About The Evening:Â
This three hour event has five main sections
1. Intro to the Honeycomb Red Tent and to each other.Â
2. Talk by Elizabeth Ashley about aromatherapy, research into essential oils for menopause (including peri and post menopause) and advice on ways to use the oils.Â
3. Soothing and grounding meditation with Neroli essential oil - also known as orange blossom, the most important of the menopause essential oils, which is also extremely clever at helping anxiety.Â
4. Informal sharing: A chance to chat with other women about the challenges of menopause, hear stories from other women, and perhaps even develop some life strategies too.Â
5. Opportunity to buy essential oils preparations tailormade for you.
6. Honey and herb feast, including mocktails and a light buffet.
Each participant will also recieve an essential oils preparation as part of the ticket price.
Ticket numbers are limited  for this evening to ensure intimacy and enough room to move in the tiny venue!Â
Concessionary rates are available for anyone currently facing financial hardships.Â
Please do not feel embarrassed to ask about these, by texting Liz on 07547 295585
If tickets are sold out, please notify me of your desire to do this class so I can add you to the waitlist.Â
About The Venue
The Secret Healer's Shed is...a shed... albeit a pretty glamorous one! It is decorated like a Red Tent (Red Tent Meetings to come...) and includes imagery from ancient Egypt and ancient Greece (in particular bees and snakes.)Â
We will be seated on floor cushions, but if you expect you may feel uncomfortable on the floor, please let me know in advance so I can arrange the space to have a chair available for you.Â
While we have lots of cushions and blankets, please wrap up warm as the temperature does tend to plummet after sundown. Please wear sensible shoes to walk through the garden as there are many uneven surfaces, and bring slippers to wear in the shed. I am still a bit  precious about my lovely rugs!
The address of the venue is 4 Bridge Cottages Sheet Road, Ludlow SY8 1LQ, however access and parking is on Steventon New Road, Ludlow, since the house is attached to the railway bridge.  It is the second house along, opposite Keystone Gardens, has a black picket fence and big green gate.  The secret to the gate is to  push one and pull one at the same time.
Please note: there are beehives (with honeybees) in the garden, and we also have a dog.Â
Any problems with access please call 01584 529121
About Elizabeth Ashley
Elizabeth Ashley, better known as The Secret Healer, is the UK Director of The National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy and an overseas speaker for the International Federation of Aromatherapy.Â
When she first qualified as an aromatherapist in 1993, dinosaurs still roamed the Earth, but even that was a long way into her journey with essential oils, since her mother, Jill Bruce, had also trained with Patricia Davis when Liz was just eight years old. Jill ran a manufacturing company that travelled around the country, selling 140 different hand-made medicinal and beauty preparations that she’d designed. She established what was the largest aromatherapy school in the UK in the 90s and was a founder member of the IFA.
Elizabeth Ashley is an essential oil researcher and has published 22 aromatherapy manuals. Her work takes the latest discoveries about essential oils from the laboratories, reuniting them with their most ancient knowledge and myths from antiquity. Her books are known for being thorough, approachable, and engaging.
The Secret Healer has feet in two different worlds. One wears sensible shoes in the scientific, where her main interest is neuroscience and how the emotions affect the physical body. The other dances barefoot in the spiritual realm, so she must be mindful not to trample any nymphs or faeries.
In 2019, Ashley began to research Lemon Balm essential oil (Melissa officinalis) and came across an arcane mention in a medieval herbal that the Melissae had been priestesses of the ancient Greek goddess Demeter. Her exploration took her back three thousand years to a cult of forgotten nymphs. Meeting The Melissae, The Ancient Bee Priestesses of Demeter explores the lives and beliefs of these women who were also sometimes plants or bees.
After many years as identifying as "Clinical aromatherapist", in 2023 she took the decision to change her title to "wortcunner" which is the olde English name for someone who learns the medicine of a plant from the plant's spirit, in recognition of her work as a plant and bee shaman.
In addition to her twenty three books, she is a prolific video presenter. In 2018, along with Hungarian aromatherapist Gergely Hollodi, she hosted the first ever online summit for professional aromatherapists, a business model which has now been emulated many times. Currently she hosts a weekly vodcast on her Youtube channel with Doterra Australian Founder, Adam Barallet. Each week they feature a different oil, looking at mind body spirit, but also how to use each oil and its safety. The partnership seeks to heal the divide between the MLM and qualified aromatherapy communities.
She is also a busy ghostwriter, a safety consultant for many essential oil companies, an online lecturer and overseas speaker having presented about her research in China and the US amongst other places. She also writes a quarterly business column in Holistic Therapist magazine.
Liz is mother to two grown superheroes and a male teenage giant. She lives in Ludlow, on the borders of England and Wales with her beloved Husband, The Strong Silent One, their dog, axolotl, tropical fish, and bees. This also includes a link to The Complete Guide To Clinical Aromatherapy and The Essential Oils for The Physical Body, an e-book which she gives away for free that profiles 100 essential oils and 60 different conditions and has almost 1700 Amazon reviews with a 4.8 average rating.
